Hello, I have a 1996 that has been acting crazy lately. The back window keeps opening. Thought it was the switches,(door, console) and unplugged them, still opened, click, click, click.I thought it was the pke and pulled the fuse, but it still opens, click, click, click. I dont have any remote controllers. Battery in the car is fine. It has 31,000 miles. Nothing else is acting up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Have you tried pulling the fuse to the rear hatch glass release?
A short in the switch in the console or the one on the door are my first thoughts.

No I didnt try the rear window latch fuse yet, just got home and unhooked the battery. both switches have been pulled out and the pke fuse as well. This thing is driving me crazy.
Thanks for your response. My only problem is the hatch opening. It will open and the latch will keep clicking. I have no problems with door locks, windows, or alarm. If the pke fuse is out, and the door and console switch are unplugged how is that thing still working? Thanks again.
Mine is doing sorta the same thing. A few months ago I noticed the door
locks would lock randomly, and when they did the rear hatch would
open. The first thing I thought was PKE. I removed the fuse and all was
fine for several months until this weekend it did it again. I thought it had
to be a short in some switch on the driver's side door. Haven't had a
chance to look yet. If you find your problem let me know. Sounds very
similar.
There are three lines that feed power for various purposes into the PKE module on a 96. They are protected by fuses 26, 40, and 42.
The hatch release is accomplished by grounding the hatch release relay coil. The other side of the coil has power all of the time (through another fuse). Your problem could be in the pke module, one of the switches, or a wire to the relay touching ground.
As always, the official shop manual is highly recommended as a reference.

I am leaning toward a grounded wire. I pulled the rear hatch fuse when I got home and it stayed closed all night.
"Are you sure there is no junk in the center console pressing the trunk release button?"
Both the door switch and console switch are unplugged. Hopefully I will have time tonight to trace the ground, will let you know what I find. Thanks again.
