I've got a 92 black vette i'm fixing the front end on after a wreck. Anyhow it has stock exhaust. I have some magnaflow exhaust that look sweet. So the question is should I put them on my Vette? I've heard people complain about exhaust drone. Is it really that much of a problem, does it ruin conversation, is it that annoying, and does it ruin enjoying music?
Btw, does magnaflow muffler cause drone alone or the whole exhaust is what causes it? I'm actually not sure the setup on the other Vette i've got is. So bascially what should I do? It's obvious the dual steel exhaust would look SWEET compared to the stock.

Man, this will just open up a world of everyone's favorite exhausts and why all the others are junk. I suggest you do a search of past threads on exhausts. I have a 3" B&B on the '92 LT1 vert and love it. I have a 3" dual open with Magnaflow mufflers on the '90 L98 race car and love it. Good luck and get ready to be deluged and confused.
i did everything in front of the mufflers, long tube headers hi-flow cats xpipe to my stock lt1 mufflers. no drone great sound
This is what I thought about doing. Nice to see some similar ideas. I like a good sound but no drone is very important. Gone are the days of the cherry bomb sound!
Try to get some sound clips up! I'd love to hear it!

Exactly the same here. Mine is slightly louder than stock but not much. When you punch it though it sounds great! Most any after market muffler is going to have drone/resonance except Corsa.

You have a cam and other upgrades on the engine right? Will that change how loud the exhaust is?
Im in the same boat as the OP, I want an exhaust for my daily driver, but I want minimal drone with a decently louder than stock sound!

To the OP...you don't want to introduce drone or more noise to your car if hearing music and conversations are important to you. I put dual outlet OEM style Magnaflows on my L98 and introduced drone between about 1200 to 1600 rpm's if you drive in those rpm ranges and like music I wouldn't do it. Also it is louder at highway speeds. The LT1 system is a very effcient exhaust, I doubt you can improve on it just by changing mufflers.
If you don't mind drone, and loud and flashy is your bag, go for it.

Most definitely. That is why I got rid of the Corsa I had. Just to much for this old guy.
IMO the only time you'll notice a difference with the way I am running mine now is when you get on the gas. At idle there little difference over a stock system. But there is no drone whatsoever.

I just did the exhaust on my 85 and drone was a big concern for me. Its not my DD, but I still didn't want it. I installed the Walker rear y-pipe with the balance tube and there is no drone. I currently have a stock front extension pipe and cat and the mufflers have been replaced with chambered muffer eliminators. I am definitely happy with it!
In my view drone is not CAUSED by putting on this part or that part. Drone is already there ... it needs to be defeated and so far, (if you read through several years of posts on this topic) the vast majority of us have found that (for LT1 vettes) only stock LT1 mufflers and Corsa mufflers cancel out the sound waves already present that create the drone.
You will find that there are any number of us that have installed long tube headers, high flow cats, cams, etc, but utilize the stock LT1 exhaust and do not have problems with drone.
Now, go look at all of the posts from folks who do nothing other than put on different mufflers and have subsequest issues with drone. Then decide what you want to do and let us know the results
