Ok. Car randomly stops running. The engine starts, sparks turns over, but only runs if I hold the accelerator down. It won't hold an idle after I tturn the engine over unless holding down the accelerator. As soon as I let off it dies. I don't know if it's the idle sensor or whatever the sensor is that connects onto the passenger side in the front of the throttle body. I'm guessing it could be the fuel filter too. Fuel pump was changed out around 20,000 miles ago as were the fuel injectors. There's no miss and it doesn't seem like a problem that gradually happened. Just instant and random. Any ideas? Thanks as always! BTW- I have a 90 L98 with 51,000 original miles.
From everything I've read it could be any of these:
1. TB, IAC carbon build up
2. Throttle positioning sensor
3. Clogged cat/precat (no idea)
4. Fuel filter
5. Fuel pump (not likely, already replaced)
6. Distributor/spark plug wires/spark plugs
7. Fuel injectors (has none of symptoms and also already replaced)
I will start with IAC. Will clean TB while I'm at it.
Hope that solves it! Buddy has a fuel pressure tester so will do that to make sure it's not fuel related. My guess is it's most likely a sensor. Something is obviously choking but I didn't notice a gradual change to this condition. It seemed to happen out of nowhere. For not knowing jack about engines I feel lucky to be learning the ropes on a vette!
