Default Help first Corvette

Yesterday I bought a '92 6spd it has an ASR button and an ASR box under the hood but when I press the button nothing happens, no lights come on or go off no codes are tripped and it will not spin the tires under hard accel. All lights work cause when I turn on the car they light and go off. Also I have selective ride control and when I change the setting I don't feel any difference, again no lights light saying things aren't working. Also I think my antena has been removed and they have put a screw in it to keep the water out. It still picks up radio stations but not very well. Other than the things listed the car runs like it is brand new, any help would be appreciated thanks. Derrek

I finally was able to break the big ol' tires loose and the light saying ASR active came on but you might be right about the ASR OFF light being burnt out. Any ideas on the selective ride control not changing the ride noticeably? Oh and I ordered an engine spec. plaque to put in the interior and some red vinyl lettering for the front and back of the car. *excited*

I find ASR is more likely to impose itself on tight right hand turns from a stop.

You may find a squirt of electric parts contact cleaner under the ASR button makes it work again. Don't go crazy just a squirt.

If your car has both RPO Z07 and RPO FX3 then the ride will go from firm to more firm to very firm. FX3 also takes the vehicle speed into account and makes changes to the valving as speed changes. Test it out by holding your hand on one of the actuators on a front shock while someone else starts the car. You should feel it do its lock to lock self test on power up.

Welcome to the fun!

I have been able to get the ASR Active to come on but I think the ASR off light is burnt out. Do you know if that is just a bulb that can be replaced? How do I find out if it is a RPO Z07? I'm assuming it is FX3 b/c it has the switch for ride control (touring, sport, performance).

Congrats on the purchase.Hope you got a good deal as it sounds like the car has some issues, but its still a CorvetteIf mechanically inclined remove button and do ohm test to test button. Also you should be able to turn ASR on a off using a paper clip once button is removed(for testing).I notice a difference between setting on my FX3 so maybe your shocks are leaking or worn.My ASR works wonderful & so should yours. If not it can get expensivePics

The ASR works bc I turned it off earlier and it got all over the road
the light must be burned out. I bought the car for $7k with 113k mi paint is as good as I've seen on a used C4 (very min. chipping on the nose like 4 chips) black leather that looks like it has never been sat in, dual targa tops (the glass one has the blue tint) and near new tires all around. I think I got a good deal. I have heard the LT4 cars have a difference of horse power (2% is supposed to have 385 hp) did the LT1's have hp diff also? It feels like mine is putting more than 300 hp to the ground. I had a 98 Z28 with the LS1 and this car feels like it is making more power than my Z did.

How do I find out if it is a RPO Z07? [2]
1. When you turn the key from off to run the lamps on the DIC should light up. If you hold a flashlight close to the DIC you can read the lettering even if the lamps don't light. If it is a bad bulb then it can be replaced.

2. Look under your center console lid for a list of RPO codes. One of the fun things you can do with your new ride is google the codes to see what they mean.

Cool.385 hp,where you hear that from?I do believe they were under rated though(Lt-4).I also had a 98 Z28,but with a auto.My 98 was MINT.But I enjoy my vette(auto) so much more.I think as far as speed/accel they were about equal. The Ls1 is a better engine though in my opinion but the Lt-1 is awesome too.

I've seen on several fourms that 2% of LT4 have 385, 17% have 360 to 370, and the rest rear wheel dynoed produce 340-350 when they were rated at 330 flywheel hp. So maybe our LT1's are putting out 330 hp. My Z was also an auto, I am so glad I got a 6 spd this time it is so fun to run through the gears. I decided if I was going to buy a Vette it was going to be a stick and I was lucky because this one feels like it just rolled off the show room floor! But I looked for a long time before I found the right one.

Sorry but that is all BS. LT4 is 330 CHP rated and LT! is 300 CHP rated.
You guys have some LT5 (ZR1) numbers mixed in there too.

Welcome to the madness. I read in another post that you had a '98 Z28, as did I. About the RPO's if you open the compartment behind the passenger seat you should find a sticker that has all the RPO's of your vehicle. There is a sticky on this forum that lists what most of them are.

Don't turn that ASR off too much or those big ol' rear tires won't be near new for too long...or as I have done, accept the fact that buying rear tires is an annual expense.

Yeah, this folklore is right up there with UFO's and Area 51. And just like the Air Force only really knows the truth to that one, The General only really knows if these were under rated.

Honestly the FX3 settings are hard to decern. You can feel the difference a bit when riding on the highway.
