I am looking at this y-pipe to replace the stock one that is falling apart. Is the crossover tube going to cause me any problems or is this a bolt and replace type of thing...
Should be a bolt-in with stock mufflers. Had one on my 87. Not really sure what the cross-over pipe really did as the open part of the pipe is pointed at the backside of the exhaust flow.
I just installed one in my 85. Its a nice piece and went in rather painlessly, plug and play with little modification. It doesn't have any clearance issues and the heat shields are welded to the pipe, like the stocker. I don't know what you plan to attach to it, mufflers, eliminators, etc. but they advertise that you can't use it with the stock mufflers. I think I found out why too. In my case the ends of the Walker pipe came in about 1.5 inch shorter than the stock y-pipe so in order for the stock mufflers to line up with the stock cut outs of the rear bumper cover, a spacer is needed to be added to each end.
I installed chambered eliminators on mine from Allen's Exhaust. I had to cut some pipe to fit on the ends of the Wakler Y to extend it out in order to have tips centered in the cut-outs of the bumper cover. It was a quick and cheap solution and the sound is awesome.
