tcc switch

My 84 is wired so a switch on the console can lock or unlock the torque converter on command. I am using an aftermarket transmission controller for my 4l60e. I used to run a 700r4 and did the same thing. You'll need to find the wire out of the ecm that controls the lockup solenoid in the transmission and ground the thing through the switch. That will give you lockup. During a run, I will lock up my converter right after the 1-2 shift. Just have to remember to unlock it before stopping.

Right Rodj. Once my car is launched, I don't need the converter to slip anymore. When the converter is locked, it becomes similar to a clutched transmission where the motor is connected directly to the driveline. With the converter locked up, my car goes throught the lights at 6500 @ 126 with 4.33 gears which is perfect for my setup. Without the converter locking, I'm at 6700 @ 120 through the lights and the car is no longer pulling. My car is .3 seconds quicker with the converter locked. When the converter locks, a solenoid opens in the tranny and fluid dumps out of the converter allowing the clutch disks (I have 3) to contact and grab. It doesn't take any horses to lock the converter.

Its been to long since i have messed with my wiring, but i would also like to try this switched deal. Sounds like i might pick up some speed in the 1/4! Like i said i did somethin were it locks up only when i shift to 4th. I will have to lok back through my threads is guess. I got the idea from peteK on this forum i think it was.

Actually, since I'm now running an Accel DFI with a TCI transmission controller, I just intercepted the wires going into the tranny's lock up solenoid and gave one terminal 12 volts and the other ground through the switch. I wanted to make sure I had a full 12 volts to activate the solenoid. To those wanting to lock up during full throttle, make sure your converter is up to it. I have a 3 disk Vigilante converter from Precision Industries that works. Most other converters have a single lockup facing that may not last long.
