I am thinking of buying a Ed Wright Fastchip for my 89, I see at their web page they offer chips for 89 Corvettes for $159 and wondered is this the stage 2 chip? It makes no reference anywhere to any other chips other then the custom chips.. I did write him to get some details but he never did mention the stage 2 chip.. the one they sell for $159 does kick the fans on at 180 and back off at 172 degrees and he said the performance is increased not only at wot but through out throttle.. Has anyone used this chip and what is the stage 2 chip.. also how do you like it, I hear hyperchips do little more then turn the fans on earlier and Ed's chips are much more performance oriented..
Though that chip is likely the best of the "off the shelf" units you realy don't need a chip change with a stock or lightly modded L98 with a MAF, like your '89. The '90-'91 L98s with the SD intake realy need a chip to match fuel flow with increased air flow.
With our L98s put those $$ into other mods for better efficiency and HP. Check out my mods and those of Vic'89. I run low 13s and he runs high 12s, with stock chip and air flow and ignition/cooling system mods.
If you're looking for HP do the exhaust system, intake, ignition, cooling, parasitic reduction, etc. mods.
I agree with 65Z01 on this one. I put the chip in mine but for other reasons. First off I couldnt locate anyone who made a fan switch for the 93. Ed says he enhances the ASR on the LT1. The one thing a chip will do for you is move the converter lock up from 41-43 mph to 50. Does it do anything for street performance? I dont feel it if it does, but I dont get to drive the car that much. I am planning to go to the strip on 3-29 and I will see if it has made any changes in the car. Good luck with your decision
