Got a service ride control light and don't know where to start. Live chicago area anyone know a reliable shop that knows how too fix this problem honestly without wasiting time and my money. I'm 65 and fairly mechanical but this may be beyond me and my tools.
Also looking for a code reader and book to explain them I can use on my cars. Thanks JDR
The most common failure is the gear on top of the shock and the gear in the actuator. The one on the shock is made from pot metal. The one in the actuator is made of hard plastic that becomes brittle with time. This failure causes a shock/actuator combo to fail to change to its valve position within the time the controler sets. You will have a code for the FX3. Those codes are totally seperate from the ECM/CCM codes but are just as easy to read. Before you go to the trouble of reading the codes, look at the front two shocks. Sometimes people report that the actuator has simply become unclipped and it is very easy to pop it back on and clip it.
Read this post and use a paperclip to find the error. Even if you wind up having someone else do the repair labor finding out what is wrong and having the part on hand before you go in is the best course.
I've never noticed any differance in the ride when it was working. hardley worth the bother! Rides great on smooth roads but rough as a cob on illinois wonderfull bumpy roads. Their always fixing them but most are still horrible. JDR
I pulled the actuators on the front shocks and found both metal gears on top of shocks broken. Read this is a common problem for vettes in northern states with cold temps. Now where can i get these gears reasonable. captainzcnc wants $35 each. Ouch seems high for a simple part but they do have us over a barrel? JDR
