has anyone been able to change the driver side window motor without removing the inner panel and the entire window mechanism? not sure if i want to tackle this myself if i have to totally gut the door and window mechanisms.

You will need to remove the door panel, the accessory panel, and disconnect the regulator from the glass. You can leave the glass in the door. You can use tape to hold it up or gently lay it in the bottom of the door. Then you remove the regulator with the motor. The motor is rivited to the regulator with big rivits that I think you can simulate with brake line and a flair tool. Or you can use nuts and bolts but they have to be low profile. There is nothing hard about it but lots of little steps. There is an old tech tip about adjusting the window for a perfect fit and there are diagrams in the FSM. For me all the reading about it in the world wasn't as useful as just getting in there and seeing how it worked. Good luck!

I don't have the tech write-up but do a search under "change window motor". Its not really difficult.....about an hour and the motor is around $50.00.
