Default Engine pulled

1985 Vette. Pull engine, trying to decide if crate engine or rebuild would be better. Not planning to race but would like to jump the hp from stock 230 to around 350. Currently get about 22 mpg on highway. Anyone know where the gas milage will go (assuming I keep my foot out of it)?

Depends on your personal ability. I'd never go crate just because dollar/hp is much better doing the work myself. Get with a capable machine shop that builds motors local to you, talk to them about your goals and the costs to do machining (and assembly if you aren't comfortable with that). Lay out the parts costs and then compare the time/aggravation versus the money you save and decide what's best. That's about the only way to decide.

Buy a 400 small block form the junk yard, and have you local machine shop rebuild it, swap all of your parts like your distributor, intake, water pump, valve covers etc,

buy a new cam, some Edelbrock aluminum heads, headers, Flywheel and a new oil pan and smaller starter and smile
