Default Weatherstrip suppliers

If you remember I posted that I had bought weatherstrip from Steele Rubber. well its installed and heres the report: 1985 coupe

The A pillar is a firm rubber and made By Steele. it fit well and went on nicely, no problems at all it had the plastic reinforcing pieces molded into it and was over all all a nice piece to work with.

The door pieces were plainly stamped "Metro" (I ordered from Steele not Metro) and they were as others have said very soft and no plastic reinforcing in the ends.. such that the screws that hold it on at both ends will readily pull out of the weatherstrip even with the "grommets they supply.

I called Steel and questioned the Metro pieces coming form them.. the reply was" there are three major US manufacturers of Rubber products like this and since they don't all make parts for everything, they regularly pool or buy form each of the other MFRs and ship them out"

So if its made in USA odds are it comes form one of the 3 Metro, Steele or the other one (I cant remember the name right now) But Steele did say they would tell you who made it before you buy it.

Overall.. the metro door seals arent great but I think they are good enough to work with, getting the ends to seal is gonna be tough with out the screws to hold them in place.but compared to the made in China stuff I have seen.. they are much better.

So I guess the best I can say is ask who makes it before you order. and be patient putting it on, my doors didnt close right for several days until the rubber "set" with the doors shut a few days.
