The wife and I took a little road trip today in our 92 C4 coupe. About 45 minutes into the trip, the service engine soon light came on, but everything was running just fine. No problems according to my gauges, but I continued to monitor everything close.
We got to our destination for the day. I shut off the engine and about an hour later, started it back up. The SES light was off. I thought how wierd is that? Later on, we started home. About 45 minutes into the trip home, the light comes on again. I stopped off on the side of the road, quickly turned off the engine and restarted it. The light was gone again.
We got home, and I pulled out a paperclip and shorted G and A to check for codes. All I got were history codes: H72, H74 on module 1 and H16 and H32 on module 4. Then it flashed a 9 module followed by 3 dashes, then a 10 module and nothing after that.
Those are all (H)istory codes, none (C)urrent. Code 32 is an EGR code and likely what flashed during the cruise. It's really nothing to be concerned about, but you could clean the EGR valve.

Thanks for the response. I was aware that those here history codes and not current. My question was why a current code didn't show up when the light was triggered.
