I found a intake set up the vortec heads that works with the EGR system.
I have to look into the 49 state smog thing a harder I like to get some hi flow cats for the car and I mite be able to get away with header if I am lucky.
I been told that some easy HP to gain if we can uncork the motor.
Try these web site it sounds like they know how to get the vortec heads system to work and still pass smog it looks stock so the guy at the inpection station will have no clue we pulling a fast one on them.
visual mods are another topic, but you can bring in a 49 state car if it is more than a year old or have 7500 or more miles on it? Do you meet that criteria?, lol. Basically it is just to prevent new car sales with other than Cali emission packages.
my 2008 C6 is federal, actually..I brought it from another state after it was a year old.
I know where ther a set of used long tube headers for Cheep that have a CARB EO for them but what kill me they are off a 1985 Vett they don't have Precats so they can use them 1986 and latter have precats that kills that Mod.
And yes my car is more than a year old and more than 7500 miles on it that for sure.
My car is 24 years old and 150000 on the clock 49 state car.
I wrote our Governers office about when are they going to fix this stupid Smog law for our Vintage cars.
Forget about finding legal headers, they don't exist. Those who run headers swap them out for stock every 2 years for the smog check.
Install the stock smog pump, A.I.R. and EGR and you should pass as long as the engine runs clean. High flow cats should also pass as long as they look stock. The problem is finding a shop in CA that will install them so you will have to do that yourself.
If you do your homework and look for CA legal parts, there's a lot you can do. Increased displacement, heads, cam, ported intakes are all areas where you can get power and still pass. I'm running a mild Competition cam, AFR heads, Super Ram intake and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I run TPiS headers most of the time with a high flow cat from TPiS and Corsa exhaust. I have no trouble passing smog.
I can get the Converter put on thats not the problem.
I like to change all 3 of them.
You can get a 2 1/2" Y-pipe and install bullet cats in place of the pre cats. Then get a high flow main cat and cat backs. You will pass a visual smog.
I like the idea of having 2 exhaust systems. You can change it every 2 years.
I use the TPiS headers with emissions fittings with their front Y pipe. It adapts to the stock main converter. Then every two years I pull the headers and front Y and reinstall the stock.
I can tell you there is a significant difference in power. I was surprised how much the stock manifolds restricted the flow. It was worth the hassle.
