New to the forum, and of course have a problem and looking for advice. My car is a 1984 Corvette with 29,000 miles. I'm the original owner, most of the miles were put on many years ago. The car has been driven very little in the last 20yrs maybe 3000 miles
Most years try to get it out for a few miles just to keep things lubed. Did not do that last year and so the car was last started early last year.
Gas is several years old, guessing 3 at the minimum. I did use stabilizer, but still have a problem.
This has never happened before, with the car always starting. But the other day I went to start it. Cranked for awhile before it fired up. But did not want to run. I would have to continuously feather the throttle to keep it running. Stop feathering and it would kill. Restart and same thing, keep feathering the throttle and it would run, stop and it would die. Also when the rpm's went higher then say 2400 it sounded like it was bogging out(lack of fuel?)
So I was able to siphon out at least 15 gals of gas and put 5(new) back in but no change only would run feathering the throttle, that's once it started which it was reluctant to do. Before siphoning I did put a can of injector cleaner along with sea-foam.
Pulled off the air cleaner and the injectors are spaying, whether its enough I don't know.
I guess everything is pointing to it starving for fuel. injectors, fuel pump or what? If anyone has had a similar problem and can give some advice it would be great.
Thanks, Al
Also if it makes any difference it has the 4 speed w/OD
I would replace the fuel filter. I think you are on the right track with bad fuel. Change the filter keep feathering and see what happens takes longer then you think to burn fuel doing what you are doing.

Thanks for the reply and information. Filter is a cheap place to start. Something I did not mention in my post. Yesterday when I tried starting the car it would not even fire. I squirted a little gas and it fired up and ran as long as I kept vigorously feathering the throttle.
Along with the filter, I'm thinking I might have to check the fuel pump. Anyone know how to test the pressure on the crossfire?
Well, here's where I'm at. Still not running, had "Fuel Injection Connection" service the injectors. He told me on the phone they weren't all that bad and the car should of ran.
I was hoping anyway that they would be the solution but it wasn't. Installed the injectors and tried to start, no go. The only way I could get the car to fire was to squirt a little down each throttle body. Then, like before, the only way it would run is the feather the throttle very rapidly. Ran very poor and even backfired, let off the gas and it would kill.
So replaced the fuel filter and that also made no difference. So far all my efforts have been for nothing.
I'm thinking my next move, it to pull the fuel pump and see if the sock is plugged. Any other suggestions.
Car has 29,000 miles and has been sitting several years. Siphoned out and replaced the gas. That was my first move.
Pull the fuel pump and replace it with a '85...new sock....new filter etc. See what that does for you....you are experiencing low fuel pressure
If this wasn't a cheap and easy procedure, I'd suggest you check the fuel pressure first.....well maybe I should suggest that.....OK.....go to Harbor freight and get a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the lines under the hood and see what you are getting.
Someone else on the forum says to tape it to the windshield and take it for a ride and see what you are getting on the road when you bog...I bet it is low
Haven't had time to work on my vet for awhile. But had some time today, with injectors serviced and new fuel filter. And still not running or starting, I was looking at either the TB's or fuel pump. One end or the other I guess.
Well today I finally got the fuel line off the front TB ran a hose to a coffee can and started to crank. Several attempts totaling 20-30seconds got maybe 3 oz. of gas. So looking like fuel pump is my next more.
i had the same problem with my old 84 i changed all the vacum lines and replaced the TB seal and intake seal and swaped out for an 85+ fuel pump it ran like a champ after that
A good fuel pump should move about a quart of fuel in 10-15 seconds through an open line. If you're getting only a few ounces, either a line is clogged or the pump is dying.
Pulled the fuel pump out today. Think I might of spotted the problem. The rubber hose coming off the fuel pump is totally rotten.
Still thinking about replacing the FP as long as everything is apart.
Got the beast running................................. .............................
Pulled the fuel pump the other day. Found the short rubber hose from the pump to fuel line was rotted out.
Had some time today, so pickup a length of hose and a sock for the pump and reinstalled.
Fired right up.
Thanks everyone that took time to offer help.
