This is my Dads vette. 1990 automatic. I haven't been down to look at it yet but he explained it to me and I tried to have him do some tests on it.
He says the shifter button will NOT push at all. Like its locked. The shifter will not move. Brake lights are working. Only light on the dash, is INFL restraint light. Car starts fine, steering wheel unlocks. HE said today when he shut it off it was like the key got stuck.
The car only has 34K on it and is mint. Hardly driven at all. I am thinking interlock cable must have went bad, but I am a Jeep guy, so I have no clue on a Vette.
I am got going to say this with all confindance but If you are talking about button that you depress I am not sure that the lock out will keep that from depressing. again not positive
I will try that THis weekend when I get out there. Once I can look at it myself I may have a better idea. For all I know he got something stuck in there. Seems weird it would just go bad from sitting in the garage. It was working this winter, because he goes out and will start it, put it into gear and move it around a bit. Didn't drive it though since it worked last time.
This is an old thread, but I just removed my solenoid. The button is locked by a solenoid under the console, supposed to release when we press the brake so we can shift out of park. Apparently it's a common symptom of C4 aging that the solenoid begins sticking. Mine responded to wiggling for a while, I read several posts here and went ahead and removed it to make sure I don't get stuck somewhere. Fairly easy fix.
