85 c4 vss question

85 c4 vss question
I just bought this 85 and speedo dosen't work? The problem is the vss is same style out of 94-96 automatic and wire harness has been spliced to fit it. I read about gears being plastic but gear on tail shaft is straight cut metal or alum. not plastic. What should gear look like? I bought vss listed for vehicle but it has no gear. How do i find out what is correct gear? last does anyone know where I can find a parts diagram/pictures of the tailshaft and internal, I just am nervous some one may have changed it? Thanks

the early tpi's had a 2k generator the laters had a 4k
when you pull the vss out hook a drill up to it and turn your ignition on and spin it and it should work. Your can feel the gear inside the vss hole and see with a flashlight.
