Intermittent Stalling...Need Help
When the car stalls it gradually loses power. None of the idiot lights on the dash turn on. When I restart the car it runs perfectly with no more stalling. The car has 64K miles and is well maintained. The fuel filter was replaced less at than 1K miles ago.
I took the car to a reputable shop, but they found nothing wrong and couldn't duplicate the stalling problem. They checked everything, from codes to wiring and ground connections, distributor, charging system voltage, fuel filter, MAF, fuel pump pressure/voltage, vacuum lines and more. I considered taking the car to another shop, but I don't want to keep throwing money at it.
I bought a fuel pump relay (NAPA #AR227SB) and will install it tonight. The '86 uses two of these relays, one for fuel pump and another for the MAF. Could one of these be the culprit?
The '86 does not have an opti-spark distributor (was introduced in '92).
