Default LT1 help....

Changing the front seal on a 1994 LT1 and thought I was careful with the distributor removing and replacing.

turned the key and I guess I goofed.

Now What?

Should the spline slide back in easy? I've tried a couple of different places and it doesn't really slide in easy.

how do I get it in the right place now? I see what looks like an * on the shaft.

Help!!!!

please and thank you!

Robert

It will only go back in one position. Doesn't matter if you spun motor. Splines will only fit a certain way. Carefull not to damage seal.

check all you connections including the spark plug wires.

The way they're laid out on the cap is a little screwy.

old connecters can be brittle.

If you examine the drive shaft and the coupler carefully, you'll see that they're both keyed. It doesn't stand out in an obvious way to a casual glance, but look closely. So long as you don't force anything, it can only be installed when it's aligned correctly with the camshaft, so don't worry about that. Find the keys on both parts, then rotate the distributor shaft to align them. When you get it right, the distributor should pop in place with no more than a mild bump with the heel of your hand. Do NOT try to draw it on with the bolts, or to otherwise force the issue, and you'll be okay.

Live well,

SJW

Edit: Looks like your post showed up while I was typing this up. Congrats. Glad you got her running again.

Live well,
