Default AC Clutch replacement

Yep, its summer. Do you need to evacuate the AC before changing the clutch?

TIA

No. I just did this on my 86. Could not find the correct clutch. Tried several sources. Ended up changing the compressor. Have to evacuate it to change compressor. Got a good deal on it. Only a few more dollars than the clutch. Works great now.

Did you evacuate the comressor yourself? If so, how? I have thinking it may just be easier to do the whole damn thing.

you evacuate the whole system by using a pump and gauges.

A shop did mine. They had the right equipment to do it. Most people aren't going to have what is needed in their garage.

Anyone know of a write up on pulling and installing the clutch on a Harrison compressor? I think you need special tools compared to a Nippodenso compressor.

Yes, you will need a special puller-installer, you can check at autozone, they may have one to lone-out. A clutch is between 80 to 100 bucks, the whole compressor can be found for 175 to 200. I have spent the money on a clutch and ruined it trying to put it on and it was money lost. I change the whole thing now. Its a PAY ME NOW OR PAY ME LATER situation..

Red 90 or someone else. $175-$200 sounds like a really good deal on a compressor w/ clutch for a C4. Can anyone tell me where to find that? Prices I have seen are a LOT higher! Thanks.
