Default EGR Removal

How is the best way to remove the EGR valve? I don't want to take the intake runners off unless I have to. Any one done this?

Default Egr

The reason for this question is I have a 32 code and need to clean or replace the EGR. I need ideas as how to do this with the least amount of work. TIA.

Won't get to it without taking plenum off 1st

It is probably not the egr valve. it is probably the egr sensor screwed into the egr pipe that doesn't work.
Try taking the wire off of the heat pipe, scraping the insulation off of the wire near the little sender (pointy thing) and put a jumper wire on the wire with a clip to ground. If your light goes out, you need a little sensor, not the egr valve.

However, these sensors have limited availability and are getting pretty hard to find.

I don't know why everyone is so scared of taking the runners off. The gaskets come with the kit so why not change them too?

Can I get to this sensor without taking off the plenum? I have looked on the pipe that goes from the manifold to the intake and did not see the sensor.

Unfortunately, least on my 85, the EGR and the temperature sensor are tucked very neatly under the plenum, but it isn't that hard to take it off. If you just unbolt the throttle body from the front of the plenum, you save a bit of grief there disconnecting water lines, and there is a large vacuum line that is bolted onto the plenum in the back by the distributor. It's pretty straight forward after that.

I hope for your sake it's the valve and not the temperature sensor. I've been looking (half heartedly I admit) for one of those for months without luck. I've ordered it from a couple places, but they end up canceling the order when they find they can't get it from the supplier.

Good luck.
Rob.

There isn't a sensor on the pipe in a '90
