My car is still not starting and after many attempts to start it smells very strongly of fuel . Also it seems that some fuel is getting into the oil supply. Could it be that the injectors are hanging up? Or is this normal after 6-8 failed starts?? Any opinions appreciated!
I agree that I would first check for spark for the no start condition but if there is fuel in the oil it's not a good sign. Even after a few failed attempts at starting there should not be a huge amount of fuel left. You might want to remove the injectors with the rail attached and turn your key to the "on" position without starting to see if you have a leaker or two. Be careful though, if they are leaking it's going to get kinda messy and dangerous. Perform it with someone else to assist you and make sure they know NOT to start it and only to go to the "on" position.
If you need injectors there was a post in the parts section for a set that are going for $50.
It is definately getting a spark. I JUST GOT BACK FROM CRANKING IT WITH THE INJECTOR FUSES OUT AND HAD THE PEDAL FLOORED (TO TRY AND DRY OUT THE FUEL SOAKED PLUGS FROM EARLIER STARTS) AND IT MADE A POPPING SOUND, WHICH HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE THE PROBLEM; SEEMED LIKE IT WOULD HAVE STARTED WITH A FUEL SUPPLY. THEN I PUT THE INJECTOR FUSES BACK IN AND TRY TO START IT SEVERAL TIMES AND SUDDENLY I HAD A TINY FIRE COMING FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD HOLE WHERE SPARK PLUG ONE IS :mad ! The fire was quickly put out with my hose but I still don't know why it is not running. It is getting way too much fuel I think!! :cry
I have checked the TPS voltage and it is within the limits. What I am curious about is the ignition module (if it was bad would I still have somewhat of a spark), the Electronic Spark Timing (I really don't even know what it is but sounds like it could be a factor) and the ECM (I think I might buy a rebuilt one tomorrow and give it a try). I still cannot figure this one out! :(
sounds like 1 or more injectors are hung open, or potentially a bad fuel pressure regulator. check the fuel pressure first. if the car has fuel in the oil, it's POURING in. don't try to start it with fuel in the crankcase, not safe.
I had installed new intake manifold and runner gaskets and an Accel Base and LPE lare tube runners. I also ported the plenum. I changed the spark plugs as well.
I finally got it running! I had taken off the wires for the injectors and tested the injectors and the wires on an Ohm meter. All corresponding components were almost exactly the same reading! So then I took out all the plugs to dry them out (they were soaking wet with gas and had gas trapped in the plug gap). Then I went and bought a different ECM and walla! It started up and had a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust; probably gas that was trapped in the exhaust system getting burned out by the cat. MY QUESTION NOW IS... THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING A LITTLE ROUGH AT IDLE AND I HAVE GOOD THROTTLE CONTROL IN PARK BUT EXTRAORDINARILY SLOPPY AND SLUGGISH CONTROL IN EVER OTHER GEAR EXCLUDING NEUTRAL. COULD THIS BE THE NEW ECM...I'VE HEARD IT CAN TAKE A WHILE FOR A NEW ONE TO ADJUST.
