I remember using my '63 to tow an airplane (wings off). It worked beatifully since in a turn the horizonal stabilizers would pass right over the rear end of the car.
Now if he intends to use this to haul and LAUNCH a watercraft, he is going to have some real problems on that wet boat ramp!!!!
Man! Too bad I didn't know that you were going to buy a trailer hitch for your C4. I have one on my car and I'm about to take it off and put it up for sale.
Word of advice on the installation, be real careful when you drill holes into the rear aluminum clip. You will have to buy a drill bit extension. When I get my digital camera back which is out on loan at the moment, I'll snap a few pics so you have an idea of what to expect. You may also have to angle shim the bottom rear bolts because of the angle they go into the rear frame. The trailer hitch is not quite a "bolt in" affair. It's a little tricky to install. I'll see if I can those pics this weekend.
I bought a Hitch last year but have never installed it. I would like to see those photos as well. I put it in position but it did look like a bit more than a bolt in.
My car is an '86, I wonder if there are any differences.
Are there any other parts but the hitch and receiver, brackets, bolt sleeves, special bolts? I got mine used from Karshop, always a good deal.

Based on my memory, there were 4 bolts. Two very long bolts and two short bolts with a square shank near the head of the bolt. There were also 2 tube metal sleeves that you had to trim to fit. I passed on using them because they were just a plate of so-so metal that was rolled to a tube. The seam of the tube was not welded and I was worried it might come apart so I opted for a stack of thick washers. If I had more time to install the hitch, I would've found thick wall steel tubing that had welded seams so I could trim them at an angle for a perfect fit. You'll need the metal tubing to install the rear bolts which are the longer of the two. I'll have those pics in a day or so.
does anybody elses owners manual say" DO NOT TOW A TRAILER"-"this car is neither designed nor intended to be used to tow a trailer." but alot of people do it so it must be alright.
Be careful on the boat ramp (if thats what this is for)....if you are pulling a watercraft out of the water, your front end will want to lift off the ground and you won't get traction if the ramp is too slippery/steep/boat too heavy...your front end will just lift up....
The boat ramp is where I see an advantage of having front wheel drive...at least to pull my waverunner out with my 1995 Nissan Maxima....
All of the Corvettes that I've ever seen with a trailer were heading for race tracks with gear in tow. I don't think I would chance my Corvette on a slimy boat ramp.
What ? Put a hitch on the vette? A sin???? If you are catholic, go say 69 Hail Marys for doing that my son! And don't be late for confession on sunday!
