from all my reading the past few years here, most people suggest going with either a ac delco/delphi unit, or an msd. alot of people have problems with the msd, alot of people have great luck with them. when i did mine i went with the delphi unit, and the best price i could find was $365 on zip-corvette.com . its recomended that you dont use one of the cheap $60 units from ebay, becasue they wont last long and this isnt a project you wanna do over again

It is a big job that you don't want to do twice, and getting stranded sucks, so getting a good one is wise. The price has actually come down from when I bought mine. I spent over $400, but I just looked online at http://corvette-parts.zip-corvette.c...opti&year=1993
and they are under $250 now for the delphi.
Have fun. It's really not that big of a deal to do. Just give yourself plenty of time.

I've been told that all A-C Delco/Delphi Optis are now made in the Orient, so that being true why pay x2 amount of money for a opti-spark that is being made in the same factory? right now on ebay a vendor"all ignition" is selling 3 different types of opti-spark distributors #1 their house brand which comes with a lifetime warranty "they say that they've incorporated many improvements over the OEM Optis" for $160.00, #2 they sell a A-C Delco OEM opti for $365, #3 is their Dragon Opti which comes stock with the dual vent option and it has the means to advance your timing, they claim that this unit is bullet prof at a cost of $299 which also includes a lifetime warranty. so then why pay more for a different box?

I'm not one for experimenting, but I'm all for you doing it! I'd love it if you would install the "bullet proof" version and give us a review of it so that WHEN mine does goes out, I'll have another choice.

Yes allot of the Delco stuff is made overseas now, I hate that but I can't do anything about it. However the quality is still not the same. The optic sensor that Delphi is using is not the same as the $60 opti units out there. I have even tried aftermarket ones to compete with those cheap ones and they fail usually they don't even start. If you want your opti to work, which I am sure you do, then buy the Delphi unit. It is the only one that has any repeatability. You notice you see threads on here of all the overseas and cheap optis that fail, but have you seen any threads with a Delphi unit that failed? Use the Delphi/Delco unit, everything else is not worth the labor of installing it.
