Default check engine light -but only at 65-75

Ok 87 Manual, car runs great. Have recently replaced the IPS, IAC and the O2 Sensor on the drivers side (believe there is only one). Car runs great. But out on hyway the check engine light comes on once warmed up and 65-75. Slow down and in town no light.

No codes: well my book says code 12 means there are no codes (is book wrong?).

Anybody?

Could be intermittent EGR Code 32. Honestly I wouldnt worry about it, but if you want to fix it there are solutions. You need to go through the manual.

It's the EGR Temp Sensor, apparently they're hard to find (discontinued) - by coincidence I'm checking on one for my '86 with the same issue; from what I could find it's an AC Delco Part #14087415.

The wire attached to the top of mine snapped off - don't know if I can fix it or need a new one.

A search on other forums shows that "Car Quest" may have them for $21.00, their part # is 72-4651. I have a call into them to see if they still carry it.

"Car Quest" no longer carries the EGR Temp Sensor.

I think I may have found a replacement at http://www.jcwhitney.com/egr-valve-t...uestid=2193013
Once you plug in your vehicle info. it says it will work -unknown if they stock the part. I will do some further checking.

The threaded stud unscrews from my EGR - it looks like I may be able to solder the wire back on. I will still try to order one to see if it's a proper replacement.

I'm guessing that is the one on the top right side of motor, ceramic with wire in center and screws into the flexheat pipe thingy that is wrapped with heat cloth? that would make sence as mine is cracked and sloppy where the wire goes in. Godd news Is i have one (i also find um a bit hard to find, but one of the corvette parts sellers had um on sale one time i looked last fall). I hope you are right, I would be very happy to cruise with no lights on the highway.

Yes, that's it.

This is a photo from one of the forums, but mine looks very similar to this.

I'll give that a try as well. I also sent an e-mail to a place Car Quest referred me to called "Rareparts" http://www.rareparts.com/contact/
might come in useful for any other hard to find parts.

Thanks and let me know how you make out.

Default If you have OBD1

12 is not actually a code, it just means your ecm is connected and ready to display any stored codes. if there are any stored codes they will be displayed after the 12 code.

good news is the EGR temp sensor fixed it, no more check engine light. annoying news is the connector is behind the distributer and if you ahve big hands is really hard to do (i am missing 1/4 of the skin on my hand now). Bad news is I got it from Corvette Central (6-8 months ago), not NAPA, it was NOS they had and it appears they have no more.

There is a HUGE thread in the 3rg gen Camaro forums (guess the trans am and camaro use this too (should have thought of that)) that have some work arounds. Some ways to eliminate, some possible fixes/mods, etc.. its a long thread and takes some digging.
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tp...ensor-has.html

Hope that helps (the thread) anybody without a new part. I'm just dang happy I have no lights anymore.

Thanks for the NAPA tip - I actually got mine at NAPA for less than $20. It's not NOS, but a replacement. I'll grab the part# tomorrow and edit the post in case anyone should need it.
