I know ATI makes a supercharger kit for an 87, but I cant justify $4600. For
that kind of money I can build a killer NOS motor. Has anyone seen a Vortech
S-trim on a 87? They dont sell a kit but has anyone made one fit? Also does
any one make a turbo kit, just curious on this one if there is one its most likely
more than $4600.

Carroll Supercharging make a kit using Vortech SC's (around $5K) You could use adapt it to fit S trim, but to take full advantage you will need to beef up the short block.

Yes it would be more than 4600, I would think around 12-15K with a stout short bloack and aftermarket ECU would be a good estimate. To beef up any L98 C4 past 400hp, you really need to get rid of the stock cast pistons.
I am in the process of building forged internals Blower 383ci LT1 with "D1SC Procharger. Cost? when its all say and done is about 13k. remenber, some of the parts I already have when I did a top end mods 2 year ago. 13k not including labor if someone else do it for you. I am doing all the install my self. The speed shop is build/assemble/blueprint shortblock.

Turbo chargers make great horsepower, but are expensive because of the fabrication required to mount them. Monty a fellow forum member is having twin turbos installed on this 1980 vette and it's costing him 15k just for the fabrication to mount the turbos and intercooler to his car. That doesn't include the cost of the turbos and other parts. He is looking at about 1300 hp on pump gas with his TT427sbc when done.
Superchargers make great HP also and for much less $ . It all depends on your goals and what you're willing to spend. Horsepower cost money, the further you go the higher the increase per hp.
packaging on the c4 cars is kinda tough for both superchargers and turbos. the turbos are more efficient, and can adjust boost on the fly, with superchargers, a pulley change is needed. turbos also benefit from running intercoolers at boost above 10 psi and plumbing is a PITA. see the zr1 section, we are working on a twin turbo zr1 project. appreciate any feedback and I will begin posting here too. great to see this new forum !!! :p:
true. you can buy a nice callaway for about the price of a custom twin turbo job. figure 15-20K for a nice turbo system when you count the work to rebuild the engine, do the pipes right, etc..
but callaways don't make 1k hp. meaneys car makes that on pump gas and he can turn up the boost on race gas and make another couple hundred.
I love the callaways, but they are designed for emissions, reliability, and torque. the turbos are a bit undersized for monster hp. my tastes run more to the sledgehammer end of the spectrum.
say screw it, buy a roots style blower, holley 671, and cut a hole in your hood. But honestly, as everyone else has stated, good luck finding a power adder for cheaper then that... lots of horsepower, takes a lot of money...dammit :cry

Yeah you right about the Callway TT hp potential, but from what I have read, it seems like they can do 600rwhp with out too much problem. The original poster seems like he was interested in 350-450hp SC kits.
your right dgoodhue, I just want around 400hp. I already have another car
that I run at NSCA streetcar shootout events, The vette is just a toy, I was
hoping someone made a vortech kit and it was priced like the F-bodys around $3000. I could do it with NOS but I'm looking for the cool factor
I personally think the Vette kits cost more because it's for a Vette. I think the extra money comes from the fact that people think we are all rich because we drive Vettes. But hey, that's just me.
:D
who has really upgraded a callaway to make over 800 HP??? it seems to me that a twin turbo vette ought to make more power than a NASCAR engine. sheesh, a good unrestricted SB2 head engine will make 750 HP ALL DAY on a mild tune. the twin turbo cars should make LOTS more than that. even the ricers are cranking out over 600 hp out of those little 4 cyl honda fart boxes.

The money problem with LT1 superchargers on our cars is packaging. Our belt system is diffrent from the F-bodys due to space constraints. If you look at a typical vortech install the snal is installed backwards where the powersteering reisvouir is normally located. So naturally we bite the bullit with an extra $1000 bucks added to the price. :nonod:
