Default New Fix it List - It never ends

I just dropped the car off at paint and will not get it back for a few days so now I am on a mission to get an agenda going for when it comes back. Here are the noticeable problems on my list.

1) When you first put the tranny into drive it clunks into it pretty hard. Even when your on the brakes it jumps forward when it drops in. Now I know every car will have a slight noticeable feeling when it gets into gear (my silverado has it) but this one is heavy. Like it kicks your head back. If I didn't know any better I would think i was revving it and dumping it into gear...obviously I am not. So that's first thing.

2) Front passenger side headlight gets stuck halfway through rotation about 25% of the time. Most times it just rotates through just fine, but on occasion it gets stuck and will fix itself if i open/close again.

3) AC Conversion? - There is no freon in the system now at all. How hard is the convert to 134a considering the fact that I cannot seem to find the R22 anywhere.

4) Wheel restoration? - I would assume that starting out with some 400 grit and working my way up to a 1200ish grit and finishing with some polish would work well. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I am suure there is more to come!

Regarding #2. If you have not already done so, do a search on the forum for a headlight repair thread. It involves taking out the headlight motor and installing three little plastic barrel shaped pieces. Yo may also have to replace the gear too. Takes about 2 hours to replace both sides.

Regarding #3 You will need to assess the condition of the compressor and the remaining system. Check for leaks, replace components if there has been a catastrophic failure of the compressor, etc. But, do not let anyone tell you that R-12 is not available. IT IS. Yours may already use 134-a since I do not recall the year of your vehicle. It would not use R-22.

#2: This is probably just a weird problem only I had, but mine would only open half way, then twitch until I closed them again. Turns out one of the screws that secures the bucket to the bracket had backed itself out, and was hitting the hood when it tried to rotate. Probably not your problem, but its a good idea to go rotate it yourself by hand and see if anything is binding or in the way.

Regarding freon R12 is what yourlooking for I suppose and from what I recall its all over ebay. As for the clunking yeah check universal joints but Id also check TV cable adjustment. If its pulled to tight I have found this to cause hard shifts tourq lockup issues etc
