Default Help! AC Problems and Questions

The AC in my 91 in not working. When the AC is turned on, the clutch does not engage and spin. Is there any way to direct wire the unit to see if the problem is with the compressor itself and see if the clutch turns on? I am assuming the entire unit is bad, but don't want to put the money out until I am sure.
I already checked the fuses, belt, tensioner, and all seem fine, so i am afraid I am looking at replacing the compressor.
Any help is appreciated.

Not an A/C expert, but if the system is low on freon the compressor will not engage.
There is a low pressure switch which prevents you from burning up the compressor.

Yup, wifey's 91 leaks one small can of R12 every year - just did the yearly recharge and it's making cold again.

if the blower control is like mine, to cause the clutch to engage just ground the green wire on the C1 connector. it's the connector with two wires on it... one red and one green. grounding the green wire will engage the clutch.

You're saying "ground" the green wire but others are saying apply 12v to the green wire.

Which is correct?

'91 is driven by the PCM via a Relay - there's nothing at the Blower Module. Start by disconnecting and reconnecting the Battery which will clear any glitches - or Codes - and then see if it works.

Get the freon level checked first, don't go playing with the wires. as stated in an earlier post there is a pressure switch that doesn't allow the compressor to come on unless there is enough freon in the system.

Thanks everyone, great advice. I have a charging kit on order, fairly inexpensive, and hopefully once it gets back up it will kick on. If not, I will go from there.
