Default HELP! canton road race pan and engine install

For those who own a canton road race pan, Can any of you provide some tips for installing an engine that has one?

We ground some off the motor mounts already but the pan is still hitting.
4+3 trans is still in the car.

Options I have come up with and dont like

1. dent the pan slightly

2. keep grinding and try to strengthen the mounts later

3. pull trans. (which I am not even sure would acomplish much)

People have to dent pans for strokers and other reasons. That's better than compromising your mounts.

If they're not already removed, take out the frame braces and see if that helps.

Call Canton and ask them WTF their expensive pan doesn't fit. Then get nicer and ask for tips!

-- or --

cut/weld to fix

never heard of anyone denting the outside...denting the inside to clear a crank etc. is a different story.
the frame braces has nothing to do with it fitting through the mounts.

Mine was close to the mounts but fit w/out grinding/denting or whatever (15-240T). Take a tape measure and do some measuring.
As to grinding the mounts that depends on how much and where on the mount.

Not sure of your Canton pan design for an 88 but the 15-240T pan clears on a 95 nicely with motor mounts and starter installed. Drops right into the crossmember motor mount stud holes behind an automatic easily. No denting or grinding required.

The only difference between your '88 and my '85 is that mine is an automatic. I installed my engine with the Canton pan in place and it went right in with plenty of room. Really have no idea why yours won't do the same. Do you have the clutch/pressureplate bolted to the flywheel? If so that is probably the problem, you have to clear the trans input past the pressure plate.

I have done mine a couple times like this and I barrrrrely get the Canton pan through the motor mounts. I think I may have tweaked it just a smidgeon the first time I did it.

If I would just remove the tranny it would go in quite easily. Not sure why I don't because I also spend another hour aligning to try and get the input shaft in the bearing.

Clarification..It's not the motor mounts that bolt to the engine that are the problem it's the frame supports for the motor mounts. The canton pan is like .000000001" too wide to go through

In order for the engine to not get hung up on the input shaft, it has to be far enough forward that it puts the pan right in vertical alignment with the engine stands/supports.
