Hey guys, I was wondering if there was anyway to turn off the service engine light for good?? Im thinking about maybe selling the car to a dealer and just wanted to know If I could get the light to stay off while they are looking at it.
You could pull the wirem ... but a dealer is most likely going to run the computer and look for codes. If you disconnect the computer for a while, that should reset the codes. But if you've got a problem thats going to fire a code right off when you hook it back up again, that wouldn't make any sense.
Do you know what the problem is? Can you get the code? Might be a cheap fix. You never know....
Pulling the bulb out isn't hard...but the dealer will probably look to see if the SES light comes on when you first turn the ignition on, and if it doesn't then he will know that there's probably a code set.
It might be easier to fix the code. I previous car I had had two codes set when I bought it but I didn't know because the SES bulb had been taken out. It turned out that fixing the problems causing the two codes was less work than it was for the guy who I bought it from to take the bulb out to hide them.
the codes P0300.... random misfire, i changed plugs, checked the o2 sensors, changer throttle body gasket and intake gasket, changed gas cap, drained the fuel and ran strong premium gas in it.... everyone thinks that it has a cam or something..... not sure
