Default ECM programming: GMRPO, Tuner cats.......info

I currently use GMPRO to make mods to my 7730 ecm prom. My new engine wil rev to 7500+. I am concerned that I will not be able to program above 5600 rpm. GMPRO's spark advance and fuel maps only go to 5600. Power enrichment only goes to 6200.

Are there any programs out there that allow you to program higher? What does tuner cats go to?...

Anyone else have a problem with higher reving motors? Trying to stay away from aftermarket ECU setups.

Let me know what everyone thinks.....all advice helpful.

Tom

The stock GM 730/727 $8D code only goes as far as 5600/6200-ish RPM, if that's the one you're asking about. There is nothing to program beyond that point unless you either write new code or change to another ECM. You might take a look at the 749 code - I don't know what that uses for an upper RPM limit, it might be different.

IMHO accurate spark programming at 7500+ mandates a conversion to some kind of DIS also - I don't think the HEI system has sufficient inherent resolution to make timing programming meaningful at that RPM, at least with the 730. I think it's a dwell/coil saturation limitation with the GM ESC module, but I haven't come up with a way to verify that experimentally so I'm only hypethesizing at this point from what I see on my tests. If you run across any data I'd be interested in seeing it.

Hi Tom,

The 93 Y-body ECM's have variables to 7500. Fuel maps,PE, and timing.
Not shure how bad the conversion would be. Some sort of opti spark setup would be needed along with dual O2 sensors.

I would have to get a full schemematic and compare.

hmmm... 7500. if you are revving that high you have a pretty radical engine and I would recommend you consider a FAST computer for the wide band 02 sensor and better control over the fuel/spark.

you may be pushing your luck a bit with the factory ECM although it of course can be made to work.

tell us about that engine!!! sounds like a screamer. I take my ZR1 that high, but that engine loves to rev.

I will not argue the fast/dfi2000 are great setups but at a cost also. figure 2100+ for either system.

I know fo a few guys running mid7000 RPM setup with the factory ecm's. Phil(LT401) is one of them. He shifts his motor at 7300+.
Tom I have a set of schemes. I am comparing the 93 to the 7730.
I will keep you posted.
