Replace 1990 FX shocks Help
1. Where can I get them rebuilt?
2. How much does it cost?
3. If I replace them with normal shocks do I need anything special? I have
heard the standard 1990 scocks are different from the FX units in the way they
attach.

When I had the FX3 shocks rebuilt for my '92 vert; it roughly $100 per shock. I had a broken gear on the shock rod, but the basic rebuild included new gas and oil (yes, there is oil in them), all new seals and new upper and lower rubber bushings. They did not repaint them nor replace the decals.
Bilstein also offers a custom valving package called "Morraca" or something similar. This valving was developed with the help of a former CF member.
Installing standard shocks is no different than installing the FX3 unit. Just remove the actuator by pulling out the C-clip, remove the wire harness and unbolt the FX3 shock. Install the standard shock. The rear wire harness should be wire-tied up so that it doesn't fall down inside the frame rail. If you or a subsequent owner wants to re-install the FX3 shock, that wire harness can be a PIT to fish back up from down inside the frame rail

Bilstein makes a "sport shock and a HD performance shock. The sport shock is slightly stiffer than a base shock and the HD unit has the same valving as the Z51 shock.
FRankly I really liked the FX3 system that was in my 92 vert. With everything working properly, you can feel the difference in the 3 settings. The controller (in the compartment behind the driver's seat) uses vehicle speed as input to make very small adjustments to the shock in each of the 3 switch settings. Doug Rippie Motorsports used to make a custom prom chip for the controller that would make the system do even more in terms of performance.
And the setting can even overlap to degrees. The Tour setting at 70 MPH is actually stiffer than the Performance setting at 25 MPH. I could notice a very definite change in shock settings when I did track days with my old vert.
