Trying to solve my egr problem. Driving interstate only ,for about fifteen to twenty min. In the afternoon only not during the morning the light turns on. I have checked all my vacume connections and changed my egr valve. Unlike my 1989, the 1990 does not have a egr temp switch. Now the question is why does my ligt only come on in the afternoon? Is it because it is hot out? and if so what would be triggering the light. Has anyone seen this problem?
Thanks for any and all imput.
1. On some 90 models, gutting the cats will cause the dreaded code 32. Mine did until I put in headers.
2. There are a couple of small diameter vacuum lines that go into a little valve behind the thremostat housing. On mine, the vacuum line seperated from the fitting. A little silcone cured that. That could give you a code 32 also.
3. A code 32 is set by the computer when it does not get O2 readings that it expects during certain engine operating conditions. Perhaps a new O2 sensor would help if your were never replaced and you have a high milage car.

Re: 1990 with code #32 (bdtenore)
Gutting the cats. Removing the insides of either the main or the pre cats. I started to get the code 32 after installing a new front 'Y' with no pre cats and a high flow main cat. It does not seem to affect anything so I ignore it.
I'm going through the same thing. I just ordered an EGR solenoid from Pace Parts for about $20 and I'm hoping that will fix it. I replaced the EGR last year and it worked fine, but now I brought the car out this year and it's doing it again. Hope this helps.
any of you guys with a 90 or 91 that are having code 32 issues and have a feeling it's due to aftermarket exhaust.... I can disable the code 32 check in your chip for you. If you think you need a new EGR, and want to do the work, that's fine. Some people believe the code is there because there is something wrong, so by all means, troubleshoot it!!! But if you feel that everything is in working order and just want to get rid of the check engine light, then get in touch with me. It will involve you sending me your chip, but I can mail it back the next day. If you want to pay for faster shipping than first class mail, then you'll need to send that to me.

This offer is only open to 90-91 owners, I sometimes have problems with '86-'89 chips and don't have a car to test on, so I wouldn't feel comfortable burning a chip that I can't test out. If you have an '89 and want to take a chance, I have more confidence in that year since it used a different definition file.
