Well towads the last step of installing my new top, you need to pull over the sides on the side vertical rail next to the left/right windows. The fold has to fit all the way over the corner so the bottom corner against the car body goes all the way forward towards the windows. Well mine was short on both sides by about a half an inch. Has anyone else had this problem with a Robbins top? I called a technician at Robbins and they suggested doing the corners first and then doing the rear bow so that it will be really tight. I'm going to try that tonight and hopefully that'll do the trick.
Re: Convertible Top Installation Problems (GlobalGreg)
What they are suggesting sounds like it should work. I didn't have a Robbins, although i hear theyre excellent, but i had plenty of top for the sides I screwed the tracks for the weatherstripping through the material too so it will stay tighter. Lets see pics when yu finish. :smash:
Re: Convertible Top Installation Problems (GlobalGreg)
Greg,
If I think I understand what you said, you need to do the rear bow first. Then work your way forward. You do the middle bows next till you get to the front bow. If memory servers me, then you start on the window.
One thing I should mention is that you do not have the material pulled down far enough on the rear bow, I think it make it not fit right like you mentioned. You would also see the material that extends on the rear bow bend upward rather than down (so the rain can slide off). That means you should try to pull the top under the rear bow some more.
Try pulling the material tighter around the rear bow. I guess you would call it pulling it down and around tighter. Hopefully, you did not glue it yet.
Follow the procedure on the tape. If you do, it should work it did for me. I had a Robbins top too. As I recall I had to trim excess material for the rear window channel. You should not be caught short.
Follow the video (if you were not already doing so).
Re: Convertible Top Installation Problems (Flame Red)
The video said to start with the middle of the rear bow, I did. The problem came on the last step when you pull the sides of the top around that vertical column on the left/right windows. It was too short on the corner nearest the car body, so a technician said to start with the sides next to the windows (of the rear bow) and then work back to the middle of the rear bow. Yes I've already glued it but I think I should be able to pull it off, at least the technician said I should be able to.
Re: Convertible Top Installation Problems (GlobalGreg)
I see, that should work.
I did have some problems trying to reglue that back bow. Turned out to be a real mess, since I had already glued the rear bow weatherstripping on. :cuss
I suppose you are talking about that lower corner by the window where it is kind of held on by velcro.
