Default just another cam question

stock 88 tpi with stock 113 aluminum heads. want to put a new cam in. For budget reasons i am going to keep the TPI lower intake and plenium but switch the runners to the tps, i will full siames the runners and plenium as well as port match the entire intake. i will be getting the bosh III 24lbs injectors. im gonna put some shorty headers on it to keep the stock look. i am up to either keep my stock stamped (i know) rocker arms or upgrade to the 1.6 roller rockers, as well as beffing up the springs, i have done alot of cam research and see that the LT4 hotcam is pretty nice but wrong for the TPI's power band, is the ZZ4 cam a better choice, although i dont like the stock sounding idle, i like my cars to lope.
any sugestions on a good cam... if it passes smog thats great but if not i got a guy. im keeping the stock 4+3 and stock dana 44

Be careful it a CA car like my car more lopey idle harder it going to pass smog unless you know someone.

You going to change to a diffrent Chip also more lopey the cam is harder is to get a chip to work and get passed smog.

A lot of Lopey cams sound great but they rise you workable RPM range into a higher range and makes less streetable The Key is for us getting passed Smog.

You most likely lose bottom end with a lopey type cam it made for more of a mid to top end type power when the TPI is more for Bottom to mid range type power output.

You mite have to change out to a lower rear end gear raito and make sure you have the correct compression to get the comb to work.

And what I have read shorty Headers are not worth putting the money in to for the little improvements they make.

I was looking at them my self but I not going to do it not worth it.

You better off using the money for other stuff.

As for 1.6 vers 1.5 rockers mite as well get a cam with more lift than longer rocker arms to get more lift this way If you want to save some money use you stock ones.

It's going to cost you coulpe hundred to get your old heads redone.
I would use the money for the shorty headers and getting the heads redone.
For a better set of heads or good set of roller rockers.

Or a intake base, better set of heads I was told with a good set of Aluminm head you can run up to 10.5 to 1 on pump gas I running 9.5 to 1 so I don't have to use high grade pump gas and with the way gas prices are still going up keep that in mind.

When I had my Race Motor Cycle I think race gas was almost $8.00 a gallon

I wish I could also get away with a lopey type cam full length Headers but it not worth the headachs and swicth thing out and putting thing back every 2 years at least for me.

I would go for not a whole lot of lift this way you dont have to get the high lift valve spring the higher end push rods. Worry about the valve hitting the pistons more valve spring pressure wears you'r cam out faster and harder on the valve seats.

Go for a longer duration type cam with a wide Center line shorter center line more lopey the cam is more lopey harder to tune and harderer to pass smog.

You also want a 1200 to 5500 RPM type cam will help you also get passed smog.

If you have a auto with a mid to top end type cam thats lopey you mite have go with a high stall conveter to get things to work and you most likely need to get the trans beefed up for the more power the stock Auto's are more or less maxed out already.

With a high stall converter makes more heat you going to have to run a trans cooler I would put one in anyways keep the trans cool it last you longer even stock trans.

Once again with Lopey cams anouther draw back that they can have is low idle vacuum that can cause you issues.

I not trying to be the bearer of bad news I just dont want you to run out and empty you bank account building a motor and buld a CA car that you can drive and get passed smog.

The TPiS ZZ9 or LPE (Accel) 211 will be better if you keep the TPI. I would also install 1.6 full RR's and LT4 springs.
