Default 88 hood will not open

Knock on wood, my 84 has not had any issues in a couple years however, my friend has a 88 and we can't get the hood open. Any assistance would be appreciated. Also, after we get the hood open, what can be done to correct it?
Thank you,
Brimis

Go to Mid America or Ecklers and see what the hood opening tool looks like. Then make one yourself and open it. Put in a pair of emergency opener cables and then adjust your original cables . Worked for me.

What's the reason ? Did the cables cut ?

- Remove fender
- Get a coat hanger and make a hook
- Introduce your hand thru the space between your fender and wheel well
- Introduce the hook from the wiper area, then catch it with your hand and guide the hook to the latch, till you engage them
- Stand up and pull to the center of the car, that should open your hood
- Now never forget to add emergency cables

ps : i have a bad driver side cable retainer and one day it popped out leaving the cable loose and hood closed (all of this after i had the remove fender experience)
it was a real let down..but i remembered that i had emergency cables !!!!
Wow i was happy,i pulled them and HAPPY HOOD OPEN AGAIN

The hanger has to be hard enough to pull but soft enough for you to acommodate every angle every try, here ya go,this is how i opened mine, the work of your left hand guiding it to the latch is very very important, thats the reason you have to get familiar with the latch's location :

Here you go !

This is what the tool does :

Now you need this :

I just took both this post and the link to the top of the 'New Repair/Mod' thread I'm putting together to become the new 'How To' sticky.

Thanks for the information. We went out to eat last night and drove our Corvette's to the shore. Through casual conversation, by friend explained to me he couldn't open his hood.
I'm sure I have enough information to open the hood. I'll kep you posted.
Thank you

Default Hood Open!

Thanks so much. This was an outstanding 20 minute fix to get it open. I will order the emergency release cables.
