What are the general characteristic sound of these on an LT1? Resonance? Popping? Crackling? Loud inside the cab? Loud outside? I like the thought of these, but am kind of weary.
I just got mine done last week on my 95... they are actually pretty mellow. There is a little popping on decelleration. If i'm cruising around 90 MPH, it's a bit loud in the cab, but cruining at 75 and you don't even hear them... nice sound to them I think.
I thought mine were pretty loud in the cad, when cruising around city streets, when I first got them, now they seem pretty mellow to me and I want louder. On the freeway around 65 to 80 you cant hear them in the cab at all. There is a little popping sometimes.
Overall I still love em.
Mine are about as loud inside the cab as my flowmasters were, which wasn't too bad. They have deep, :reddevil sound to them. As said above they aren't overly loud. Mine have never popped or crackled, but I've heard some that do. Get them and you'll love them :yesnod:
I have an L98 and I love them! These without the cats make it sound like a :reddevil , and it pops under deacceleration. Soooooo cool :yesnod: :yesnod:
I had some popping during rapid deceleration. About a month after i put the Elim's on, I put on a new front y-pipe without precats and a new main cat and the popping disapeared(114k). Maybe it's good test for clogged cats.
Well, heck - I came across this guy's website not too long ago where he had two sound files of his LT1 Vette with muffler elim's. I can't find it now! :mad
Here goes... anyone out there that's interested in these two files (one of a startup and idle, and another of startup and rev'ing) shoot me an email and I'll send 'em to ya. Disclaimer: my email address is for work, so I'll only be able to get the emails out b/t 7am-3:30pm PST.
This guy had a polo green Coupe with an "LT1" badge above the gills. So, if you know the site, do us all a favor and post the address. These sound files are s-w-e-e-t.
That said ... definitely a resonance issue but varies by car, transmission, gears, etc. With my '94 A4 w/2.59 resonance was present in the 55-60 mph range unless I shifted to D. Little or no resonance cruising at 75-80. Wonderful sound at crank up/idle and especially accelerating.
My wife didn't care a lot for the "sound" and she hated the resonance so I caved in and recently installed Corsas (with her blessings & she loves them). I have to admit I like the Corsas a lot also, but occasionally miss the "sound" of the elims.
BTW, my elims will be for sale if anyone is interested.
