Factory Oil Cooler on my 84??
After getting my 84 running great for the first time since I got it and enjoying and hour of cruising... I developed a massive oil leak. Towed it home. It looks like there is a line (2 of them) running from the radiator to the engine.. directly under the crank pulley that is spraying oil. Is this a factory oil cooler? Cant seem to find the part if it is. If not facory should I remove it? It was running soooooo good! even with the crossfire.... The vette is and 84 with auto trans... it was an homeless abused wreck that barely ran when I got it... Now it's become a well cared for baby. Any info on the oil cooler would be well appreciated.. thanks

It sounds like one of the transmission lines blew a hole in it.
They run down the right side of the frame and the hole could be blowing out fluid towards the engine.
The only other line near the crank pulley is the one on the rack for the power steering, which is right in front of it.

On another C4 site OP states;
"definately engine oil and not trans fluid."
IdaVette site
http://www.idavette.net/facts/84.htm
has 4295 '84 cars listed as having the KC4 oil cooler option
I also was of the belief that the only C4 oil cooler was the block mounted one until I was correctly on here recently by a '84 owner ( most likely CFI-EFI ).
Trying to find the thread; was about a '84 owner looking for replacement oil lines to cooler and everyone was telling him the lines were coolant lines

I found the option codes in the storage compartment... it does have the "optional" oil cooler.... lucky me..... and the hose is leaking... and so far no luck in finding a replacement hose... it almost looks like an a/c line with the fittings and all.... but its an oil cooler.... any idea where I might find one? THese things run so hot that it probably would not be a good idea to loose it altogether... any feedback on that idea?
I just wanna drive it and have fun with it....

I do not know if you have oil cooler lines or not but here is an option if you need it. We replace our stock cooler lines on our trucks with hyd hose just about any shop that makes up hoses can do it for you and it is cheap.

Only place where you are going to get lines unless you make up some from s/s braided hose and AN fittings .Just take the old line in and they can make a exact replacement .25 years on I would replace both lines
Take some pics while you are there to prove existence of Loch Ness cooler

Thanks for the help
Thanks for everyones help on the oil cooler lines. Ended up having to have them made...tried many chevy stores just in case someone had a dusty old pair sitting on a shelf. Here's an aftershoot. I get it back and it's running like crap. It ran great before the oil leak.. I figure the wires are soaked in oil (they were) I replace the left side being they were the ones that got soaked. I test drive the car.. still running bad. I have ut flatbedded to my buddys shop. The right side wires were burnt!!?? WTF? Now I know better than to replace half the wires... I guess just a coincedence... cost me anextra $100 for my dumbness. Another lesson learned.

My 84 also has this oil cooler I'm googling for replacement oil cooler lines and see this thread. So it looks I won't be able to find these lines and mine are leaking bad.
For you non believers these lines run from the oil filter block to the radiator down the left side of the engine. They are steel tube flare fittings to pipe threads on each end with a section of rubber coated braided steel in the middle very long versions of your power steering high pressure line. They have engine oil in them not coolant and not transmission fluid. I'm pretty sure I know a place to have them made here but to have to take them off and wait till there made is going to be a bummer it's my only car.

Have you looked in front of radiator for cooler? You will have to access the cooler to remove line.
