I just received a call from LPE on the status of my order. First, they told me the price of the headers increased to $795. Secondly, they told me they were no longer ceramic coated. Lastly, they said I had to purchase an installation kit for another $60 to be able to install them. Apparently they had problems with the prior vendor so someone else is making them now.
I thought the $770 was a stretch for the complete ceramic set, but I'm not choking on $855 for a set of non-coated headers and y-pipe!
I can't believe they are actually charging more.
Sorry LPE, looks like it'll be Hooker 2149's!
Maybe the 1 3/4" LPE headers are a lot harder, but I don't find the spark plugs to be all that hard to do on my 1 5/8" Headers. I have done them 3 or 4 times now and it take me 30 minutes or so.
Stainless Steel are far superior to coated mild steel.Stainless doesn't need to be coated, and will last a LONG LONG TIME. Scorp is right...it is difficult on the passenger side to get the plugs out...But it can be done.
I wish they offered the SS one's back when I had mine installed. The coating was done over twice...and it's starting to rust up again.
I've been running LPE 1.75" headers for close to 8 years now...I've never had a problem with spark plug access. However you can't use a standard plug socket with them; I use an offset 5/8" box-end wrench for the plugs. Only prob I've had with them is their coating SUCKS!! LPE has recoated them twice and they need it again. Almost $800.00 for a set of headers is ridiculous though...I agree, go with the Hookers, they're good headers, we're using them on my wife's 85. Hell, for not too much more than $800 we'll build you a set of 1 7/8" headers (if you need them that big)!!
