Default valve adjustment with diff cam

can anyone tell me how many turns past zero valve lash my valves should be adjusted with a zz9 cam and everything else stock (except for the lifters of course). is it still standard 1.5 turns?

No, no, that's too many turns.

When I ran the TPiS ZZ9 in a 355 CID TPI 86 Vette I set the preload at 1/2 (one half) turn past Zero lash using CompCams Hydrauic Roller Retro-Fit lifters. This was the CompCams recommended preload for those lifters and, also almost all of their other HR lifters too.

Remember, it's the lifters that call for a certain preload setting, not the cam. Different lifters can call for different preload recommendations. Comp's "R" lifters are an example which, last time I checked, called for .002"- .004" of preload - which "ain't" much at all.

Ditto

I currently run the Comp "R" lifters an it is only about half of a flat on the poly lock hex nut using 7/16"-20 studs.I ran the ZZ9 cam in my 383 and used 1/4 to 1/2 turn with standard CC roller lifters primarily because I drag race the car and turn it up to 6400 quite frequently. A half to 3/4 should be all that is necessary for normal driving conditions with standard roller lifters.
