I have a new IAC to install (94 LT1). Out of the factory box the IAC has a wire designed to hold the plunger (correct terminology?) in while the IAC is stored on the parts shelf. Other than the removal of the retaining wire, is any adjustment necesssary to the IAC before install?
A couple of things: Make sure the pintel hasn't extended more than - now I've got to look up the number - hang on: NO GREATER THAN 28MM. If it is longer, use finger pressure to cause the pintel to retract. Page 6-671
YOU MUST USE THE IDENTICAL RE-PLACEMENT PART (SAME PAGE)
And there is a reset procedure involving slightly pressing the accelerator pedal as the engine is fired, as soon as it does release the pedal and let the engine idle for five seconds. Shut it down then, wait ten seconds and re-fire the engine.
a good way to remember the install length of the pintel is 1 1/8 that is the wrench size to remove it. That was the way I used to teach it and I learned that from a gm instructor.

HuH? On the LT1s I've worked on the IAC is held on by two screws that are removed with a "little" metric torx bit....
Be sure and apply a dollop of motor oil to the IAC gasket that came with the new part. Then tighten to specs. This is to ensure you won't have a vacuum leak.
aboatguy was refering to l98 and most pre 90 GM,s sorry
No worries, the OP has LT1 and I was trying to get this back to LT1/LT4 IACs....I'd say LTX but my info would probably be wrong for the LT5s.
About 4 years ago I asked the mods for separate L98/LT1 engine tech and was shot down... IMO separate engine tech sections would alleviate misinformation...

How's a 1 1/8" wrench fit in this equation?
Mike
1 1/8? That one had me scratching my chin too! Then it occur to me that he was referring to an L98. Yes mine is a LT1 and two little torx screws hold the IAC into the throttle body. I would be a good idea to have a LT1 and a L98 engine section. It can be very confusing reading through old posts and trying to decifer LT1 from L98 posts.

Good info; thanks for that. Now all I need do is remember to wrench size, LOL
Hey, chalk it up to "Senior Moments."
BTW, I took that 28MM number directly from the 1996 LT1/4 Corvette FSM

Yep, several years ago I asked for the separation too and got shot down as well. I still believe the distinctions are enough to warrant the separation. Just too many differences to lump them both together.
Some Forums even separate LT1 from LT4! Now that's what I'm talking 'bout.
