I have the deeper pan recommended by the tranny builder. To give the exact inches, I would have to measure it. I have not had any problems for 3 years and the pan is no lower than my 7 quart oil pan.
The derale has good clearance for a deeper pan (think it's a bit less than 4"), depending on car height. The front of it is the lowest point, but not too bad. It does sit lower than the canton r.r.oil pan.
Don't do it if you plan on lowering your car. Mine is lowered and I have to be careful when going over dips in the road. The first thing that scrapes is my rear exhaust.
Hi,check this thread and this thread, those are my experiences
Derale pan is one of the best mods i've ever done !
Those are great links! We used those Derale style trans pans 25 years ago and they always worked awesome. Never had one leak anywhere, even when dented.
When I get time to do a fluid change in mine I'll pick one of those up.
I know on the Ford boards, there are a lot of arguments about how a deep pan helps. Unfortunately, that is a theory only since they had a Ford engineer who worked on transmissions do actual tests with sensors and showed that the deep dish did nothing for cooling in that vehicle.
Anyone know if we have conclusive proof one way or the other instead of just guesswork?
