I’m hearing a low pitch humming/rubbing noise in the rear-end, hard to say what it sounds like. It doesn’t make noise at first just after driving a while. Any ideas?

Still trying to locate the source of the noise I hear (seems to be only at slow speed and while turning) once I have driven about 15 miles.
I replaced the bearing assemblies in the rear but it didn’t change a thing.
Is it possible for u-joints to make a winning noise? I know they need to be changed at least the main drive shaft by the clunking.
Would it be the pinion gear? Checked and added the proper mix but didn’t take much.
I vote that it's the rear diff considering it happens when you are turning. One tire is turning faster than the other when you turn and the differential is what balances that.

I've been chasing something similar for almost a year. It takes about 30 minutes of driving to warm things up then the whinning starts. I threw her out one time and confirmed its not the wifey.....
U-joints are not really turning so the sound is unlikely to originate from there.
My guess is the L/R wheel brng but still can't confirm. I'm going to start some tests with a microphone to isolate the sound. Hope to find this annoyance soon.

Gear oil thins down as you drive for 30 minutes.
Ring & Pinion Gearset start to whine.
Wheel Bearings stay the same pitch or noise level cold or hot driving.
Just my experience as a Mechanic.
Nothing last forever.
Including Ring & Pinion gearsets.
Hopefully I am wrong.
Troubleshoot with a microphone - mechanic's stethoscope yet though.
In my case it’s not the bearings I replaced both L&R.
I was told that synthetic gear oil will stop the whining or at least help?
No,
In my experience once a Hypoid Ring & Pinion Gearset starts to whine for whatever reason,
changing over to a synthetic makes the whining noise worse.
I like synthetic gear oils such as Royal Purple 75-90w.
Years ago you could Buy true straight mineral/ dino 140w gear oil.
You could find it at your local diesel repair shops.
It would help some with gear whine noises in passenger cars & trucks.
Its all gone though that straight 140w.
Last time I found 140w was around 15 years ago.
