Default cranks too long before it starts

Hey,
Thanks to this forum I've got my white 89 back on the road. I searched through old posts and realized my injectors were causing my problems. Prior to this I changed out plugs, wires, coil, cap, and rotor. The ignition module was done in Dec.

I got some from FIC and also swapped out the EGR and fuel pressure regulator as well.

Now the car is running
But....it needs to be cranked several seconds before it catches. Also it has a slight hesitation at mid RPMs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does the fuel pump prime for 2 sec when key turned on?

If not ,you are waiting for the engine oil pressure to build while cranking in order for the pressure switch which runs the fuel pump to operate

Ok,
Change the oil pressure switch? Is it behind the distributor...on the driver's side? I'm showing around 40 psi most of the time.
I may have time to do it tonight.

No
OP switch is obviously working ,check fuel pump relay for 2 sec run when key turned on.
Relay may be faulty , wiring at connector may be bad

Once you check all the other stuff (Probably a mechanical issue somewhere if it used to run good and now doesnt), you can adjust the number of crank pulses before fuel is fired in the chip if you can burn your own stuff.
Has helped my motors fire up sooner without as much cranking.

With new injectors they may have new spray patterns so could need some tweaking during startup in the chip bin.

Default quick start

try turning your ignition to only on for a few seconds, then crank it.
I have had my 85 since 1992 and learned if I would just turn the key to on, I could hear the fuel pump pressure up and hear the relay under the hood make an audible noise. When this was complete, I would crank it, starts immediately every time hot or cold. 105,000 miles on it now.

Start up pulse depends on Coolant Temp Sensor - scan it after it's sat overnight to see what that signal is - should be ambient. Then start it to verify that it increases to the thermo threshold, at which point it should drop a degree or two before rising to the threshold for Main Fan operation or 226. Turn it off and see what it does. Some of ours have gone haywire, toggling shortly after startup to something above the Main Fan threshold which made cold/cool starts delayed. After troubleshooting it was the ECM, but you can always plug in a replacement CTS to see what that shows on your Scanner - if it's still haywire, that's a pretty good sign that it isn't the Sensor.

Thanks,
I haven't had alot of time to troubleshoot. Fuel pump is working and the CTS is working fine. (that was the problem a couple of years ago
I have reset the TPS and timing. I have a feeling it is something simple but I can't find it....yet!
