Default AC question

I know that the AC recharge info is here, but the threads don''t seem to have what I'm looking to confirm.
I have an 84 and the AC did not work when I purchased it last year, but there was some pressure.
Now, I decided to try Freeze 12.
1) I added just a little bit to the low pressure orifice on the accumulator? and the clutch started cycling.
2) Since I only bought the AC pencil gauge, I stopped adding to check the pressure -it is about 38 -which it indicates is in the good range.

The threads indicate that cycling means low pressure -so I should just add more right?

Sounds low to me . Once you get air through the condenser, those pressures are going to drop. Get a pencil therm. And put it in the center vent . You're goal is to be close to 40. Get the pressures close to 45 psig, and go from there.

Oh, you're using freeze 12. I don't know that refrigerant properties. Disregard my advise on the pressures.

Hopefully Forum member SunCr will chime in. He's our resident auto HVAC expert who's forgotten more about car A/C units than most of us will ever know.

I know that I'll probably get my butt kicked by true AC specialists, but this is what the latest kit claims:

Freeze-12 is designed to safely replace all R-12 systems. It is Non-Flammable and contains No CFC's. Freeze-12 is a completely legal refrigerant and is recognized by the EPA as an R-12 replacement under the S.N.A.P. program as of 10/16/96.

The kit lines etc. all connected to the original fittings on my car -so should be OK??

As I added the second can, the cycling time reduced, then it stayed on and now it is blowing real cold air
I don't have a therometer, but I checked the feel of the air on an Equinox and my air feels that cold!
Obviously, it may just last for a while, but now I can leak check it with my buddies equipment and repair any leaks and add more Freeze 12 if needed.

If freeze 12 is 134a you were suppose to of remove all the refrigerant before topping it of. The refrigerant have different boiling points. Plus it might become acidic when mixed.

I may have made a mistake, but this is off of Ebay from USS Auto parts and this is what it said:

Item DescriptionThis kit is designed to Completely restore your A/C system to Full Capacity. If your A/C system has a serious leak you may need a stronger stop leak than was in included in this Complete Car kit. For serious Leaks we suggest the Super Seal product which can also be purchased with our Freeze-12 Full Repair Kit (available in our eBay store). The can tap clamp onto all Freeze-12 and R-12 Refrigerant, Oil Charge, and Stop Leak Cans. The connecting end will fit on all standard R-12 Low Side Ports. The installation CD is specifically made for R-134a systems, but will terminology and procedures will be the same for all A/C systems in principal. The Universal Check Gauge will work on all standard R-12, R-134a, R-22, and Freeze-12 A/C systems. Freeze-12 is designed to safely replace all R-12 systems. It is Non-Flammable and contains No CFC's. Freeze-12 is a completely legal refrigerant and is recognized by the EPA as an R-12 replacement under the S.N.A.P. program as of 10/16/96. Each state has different laws regarding purchase and use of Freeze-12 like it does every other refrigerant on the market. Certain states MAY restrict the sales of refrigerants to the general public. Wisconsin is the only state we are aware of at this time with such restrictions. Where there are restrictions, an EPA certificate must be presented before purchasing. Failure to do so MAY result in your order being canceled.
Installation:

Install 1 Can of Freeze-12 Refrigerant (if there is already some refrigerant present in the system skip step 1)Install both Cans of Freeze-12 Oil Charge & Freeze-12 Stop Leak
Use Check Gauge and install additional Cans of Refrigerant as needed
----------------------------------------------------------------

Each Bid Includes:
3 (12oz.) Cans Freeze-12 Refrigerant
1 (4oz.) Can Freeze-12 Oil Charge
1 (4oz.) Can Freeze-12 Leak Stop
1 Freeze-12 to R-12 Can Tap
1 Universal Check Gauge
1 Installation CD

It didn't say to evacuate the system and it did not require changing the filttings to 134a -so I figured that it is a fomula that is R-12 compatible?

I also went to Johnsen's Freeze 12 web site and it indicates.

FREEZE 12™ requires no system flushes or lubricant change. It works with the existing R-12 lubricant.
