Just had all the issues taken care of on my '88 and I also finished my exhaust-hedman elites to true duals in 2.5 pipes with an x-pipe into a pair of Spintech super pro street mufflers then to lt1 tips. Occasionally it makes a popping sound usually upon deceleration. Timing has just been checked and is good and I just installed Bosch III from FIC. Also just changed my header gaskets since one was leaking. I dont have any cats if that matters. Ive heard some people say this is normal with a 350 and no cats. Also have egr blocked off. Any ideas?

Yes, it sounds like you have headers into an x-pipe into free flowing mufflers.
If you want to get rid of the popping, you will need to tune out the DFCO (decel fuel cut-off). When you are on the gas hard, extra gas is pumped into the engine and out the exhaust. When you abruptly let off, fuel is cut off and fresh air flows into the exhaust. This allows the extra gas to burn, and a popping sound is heard. If you had short pipes, you might even see flames.
tiny air leak at a pipe joint will do this...usually will plug up with exhaust residue by itself and stop poppin' all by itself in a few hundred miles...harmless unless sneaking home late at night.
Hey ch@0s, how do you like the CC502 cam? I've got one sitting on the shelf waiting to go in along with a new intake system.
I like.. it made 270 RWHP with stock heads and headers. It has very good street manners.
I have some Fast Burn heads now just need to put it back together.

good to hear...thanks! I've got the cam, a set of valve springs, tpis big-mouth intake, ported slp runners, a ported plenum and a chip all waiting to go in. It's already got headers and a corsa exhaust. When the weather starts to get crappy, I'll tear into it.
Sorry armybyrd, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

No worries-Im just gonna make sure my header bolts are tight in the morning.
I always have hated the popping, it sounds so cheap to me. Like the company just said eff it when designing the exhaust. Personally the power you give up to have an exhaust that doesn't sound like some backwoods muffler shop tossed it together is well worth it.
