1995 LT1 Starting Issues!
Sadly, I have another issue- strange startup.
For a few weeks now my '95 has been having a hard time starting.
It would typically start fine after sitting overnight. It would also start fine if it just sat for less than 15 minutes. Any longer than that (up to about 6 hours) it would take a few cranks to start. I turn the key, it would crank for a few. I'd back off, let her sit for a few seconds, then she'd start up perfectly.
Now however, it's gotten worse. When I turn the key absolutely nothing happens. The lights come on, dash lights come up (oil pressure and volts look good on the meters) but there's no sound at all aside from a loud click- just one. And it's a different click than a dead battery click.
So, I turn the key- nothing happens. I back off for just a second- then try again and she starts up instantly!
I swapped out the starter relay- it's fine. I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump relay. Any thoughts?
Once she's up and running, she's as good as ever! Throttle response is great, A/C is great, we can run the radio and a GPS plugged into the lighter and the head/dashlights run without even so much as a flicker.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
If I understand the post correctly, you have a starter motor issue, this could be a battery, cable connections or starter motor..
The CRANK BUT NO START could have a fuel component, but NOT the NO CRANK. Doesn't matter whether your engine sees or has fuel, it should still CRANK.
Since the NO CRANK problem is intermittent, I doubt if by-passing the starter solenoid and running 12V directly to the "S" terminal & 12V on the solenoid will be conclusive. What that leaves you with is running the trouble-shooting tree from the igniton key to the starter, looking for the cause.
As far as the fuel part, during CRANK BUT NO START conditions, if I'm correct, you don't even hear the fuel pump energize for 2-3 seconds, right? If that's the case, I'd first suspect the fuel pump relay. There's a trouble-shooting tree for this condition too.
It would be best if you had a Factory Service Manual to run the needed tests. You can also visit shbox.com and see if he has a write-up on solving your problems. Another one is GrumpysPerformance.com Lots of GOOD stuff on both.
Hope this helps.
Jake

I also had this problem on a 94 Grand Prix but it was due to same culprit at the solenoid on the fender instead of the battery.

I was digging around some more and I came across this article:

If you scroll down to the "accepted answer" the "condition" describes my current situation PERFECTLY!
Anyone familiar with the CCM replacement? Does this sound like a legitimate solution?
The dealer I bought my 95 from had an aftermarket security system put in that does kill the ignition. I just got off the phone with my local Corvette shop and they were shocked the dealer (not GM... it was at a Toyota dealer) would put an aftermarket system in it. They recommend having the system yanked and try to revive the factory setup.
