Default '96 LT4 Multiple Trouble Codes

Just recently replaced the Opti-spark with MSD brand, new water pump and new plug wires. Car ran fine for one day. Now, car stalls out quite a bit. Service engline light comes on. Security light comes on and off intermittently. ASR light comes on. A/C shuts off when Service light comes on. Multiple trouble codes: P0100, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0200, P0372, P0601, P1351, P1361, P1371. Digital dash acting wierd and inelligible at times. Car basically running like crap.

Will scan and then reset codes and car runs fine, until the light comes on again. All this just happened in the past two days and because of work, I haven't really had a chance to investigate further or have it looked at. My guess is an ECM problem. Carlisle coming up this weekend. Don't know if I'll be able to get it checked out before then, but if not, definitely while I'm there.

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Alright I got referred to you by a friend. My guess is could be the ECM cause it explains the multitude of problems. But it can also be a short of some sort. I would check all wiring. But you said it clears so I could just rule that out. Did it have problems like this before the opti swap? Is it the full MSD or just a Cap/Rotor kit?

If you plan to tackle this yourself you're going to need a Factory Service Manual for the 96 so you can run the trouble-shooting tree.

P100 thru P103 are MAF codes; P200 is the Injector Control Circuit; P372 is the High Resolution Circuit of the Opti; P601 is the PCM Memory; P1351 is the IC Circuit High Voltage (Timing Signal is Sent to the ignition coil module on this circuit); P1361 is the IC Current Low Voltage; and P1371 is the DI Low Resolutiion Circuit.

See what I mean? The system is reporting a LOT of electrical problems and they could be a bad PCM (not ECM on our year Vettes) at the core, but I've read about a lot of problems with the MSD Opti. You can Search here and on LS1LT1.com, etc., for the particulars if you'd like.

Good luck to you.

Jake

No, Never had codes until P0372 and P1371 showed up, making me believe it was the Opti that was going bad. Was the original one and the car has a little over 55K miles on it, so I figured it was time for it to go bad anyway. It is the full MSD Opti, not just the cap and rotor.

I do have the mauals. Why, I don't know as they are extremely hard to understand and follow. The so-called "New" display techniques. Never got any codes before except the P0372 and P1371 when the car just died. That led me to believe it was the Opti.

Yeah, Kyle. Just don't have a chance to get on here that much. As you can see, I've been a member for some time and still a Junior Member. Good time this past weekend, huh?

I see you have two routes to go. One you might have a new factory MSD defect opti that is screwing with you. It could be but slim.
Or it can be a screwed up PCM. If so try to have a local member swap them for you. I have a extra 96 PCM at my house in VA and Ill be up in NJ this weekend. If you cant make it to carisle Ill come up and see if its the PCM.

I have replaced the ECM/PCM and the alternator, to no avail. I have contacted Gordon Killebrew and he says to take out the MSD and put in an OEM Opti. Other Corvette owners I spoke with out in Carlisle also confirmed lots of problems with the MSD. It's not even so much the money I've thrown away as it is to doing the whole damn job all over again! Thank you all for your help.
