Hi guys i'm about to stud my Super ram and i found this nice Allen studs,1/4 - 28 - 1/2" is the total length and they have a small allen hole in the stud. Its all threaded it does not have the middle guide section.
Will this work ? Im planning on studding the plenum and put Loctite on it and put the nuts on it.
I would think your 1/2" total length would be too short. The plenum is 3/8-1/4" thick. Double that with the runner platform. You would have about 3 threads remaining for your washer and nut. Can you get a 3/4" or 1" stud?
yes im asking about it now thanks !
Nope, allen studs in 1/2 only and normal studs they are 1 ¼ long ...that's too long !
i thought 1/2 was fine since the original SR bolts are 1/2 but yes ...too little of thread

Why not just forget the studs? Get 1" hex head bolts, screw them in from the inside and epoxy the heads to the plenum. They will never come loose and it's easy to do. That's what I did with mine.
Yes i already bought that hex and i have them i tried them but ...the heads are too big
they won't fit on the EGR area (inside the plenum) and neither on the corners

The general rule I have used Minimal length for fasteners is 2 times the thickness of what is being secured plus the thickness of nut or depth of penetration into whatever.
So if the plenum is 1/4" to 3/8" thick that's 1/2" to 3/4" inches PLUS the thickness of the nut (1/4" ?) and you will probably want to have some of the thread extend through the nut, there's now 1" in length. How is the threaded stud going to be held in on the back of the plenum ? With a nut? There are thin dimension nuts available for minimal clearance issues. Check . . . . Boltdepot.com fasteners out of the ying yang ! Good info too.
Might want to check with the manufacturer of the intake to find out what length they would suggest.
For studding a SR plenum, I like and use the auveco #9668 studs. The #9667 may be an even better choice since they're a bit shorter and have a shorter blank between the threads.
For ease of installation and removal, you would also want to use 1/4-20 kep nuts. Fewer rotations to snug up, spin right on and off. Integrated lock washer to keep 'em tight.
I've had my SR plenum on and off at least 3 times with no issues with the studs and kep nuts. I've never even taken the lid off once it was installed the first time.
