Yesterday was trying to get hatch release to work(messing with wires)at hatch. Next thing I know cargo lights go out and turn signals dont work. Blowed fuse for cargo lights and turn signal flasher(was a booger to replace).Got all that fixed but car (1985) wont start, like its out of gas. Turns over great no start. Could I have fried the ECM? Before I started this mess I had a "service engine soon" on driver info center. Now this message is gone from DIC and car wont start. Is there any way to check ECM without replacing it?
The ECM is the last thing you want to replace. The car started and ran before you were messing with the wires and I doubt that you did anything to the ECM. You need to go step-by-step. A FSM or Factory Service Manual is a big help. An engine needs air, spark and fuel to run. Search the numerous threads here and you'll learn a ton about what to look for. Just throwing parts at it (like the ECM) doesn't do anything but cost you a ton of unnecessary dough. Troubleshoot first, replace second.
Check the rest of your fuses, theres one for the fuel pump and I believe each injector bank has its own fuse.. Also you could of blown a inline fuse link. Check this first. I don't think you could blow the ECM messing with light wires, fuses would blow first, someone else may want to chime in on this last part because Im not completely sure..WW
I checked the fuses for the fuel pump and the two injectors fuses. All looked OK. Am not familiar with an inline fuse link. Still learning this model vette.

Somebody posted about this today! While it is a 94, you have fusible links on your car too! Do a search in this forum Bro! There's 250threads on this. You'll learn a ton (like I did on many past problems) and it may just help you figure it out!

Power in the 85 is distributed from the starter. You have a large cable coming from the battery and two smaller wires that distribute power to the car. There are fuseable links in these two wires very near the battery. Check those. There is an additional link behind the battery. Not sure what it feeds but it should be checked also.
Havent found anything yet, did find a fusible link at the battery and it has an inline fuse connected to it. Fuse looks OK. Found what looks like a silver looking ground strap about 1/4 inch wide hanging down under the area of the battery.
Will have to crawl under and see what it is connected to. One end isnt connected to anything. Havent seen that strap before. Cant tell looks like it broke or may have burned into.
