Please help I bought a 90 vette last weekend everything was great until this morning. I started the car and my dash went crazy all jumbled cant read speed or fuel. Is there some kind of rest for this?
check the battery itself. I know chrysler products are very voltage sensitive and I wouldnt be suprised that GM could be too. Have the battery load tested. JUst a starting point bit I hope this helps
Sounds like you're display is going out. Only remedy is to get it service. This is a known problem with our with our displays. Tap on it see if it comes back on.
I wish I had an answer for you, cause mine is doing the same thing. See "Devils in the dash". Wife's '92 has issues, cause(s) unknown. I'll post what I find out. Let me know when you find the solution.
Do a search on this forum. You'll find links for repair shop it well involve dropping the steering column and sending it out to get it 0verhauled. That's basically the only permenant solution, temp solution take it apart clean the contacts and put it back together nice and snug.
Mine was doing the same thing a few years ago. The connection was loose where the LCD was plugged into the circuit board. I took it apart and plugged it back in. It's kinda hard to get it plugged in all the way cause the wires are so short and the plug is hard to get to. I used a screwdriver to hold the plug in place while connecting it. Hope this helps
I can take pics if you need me to. I have my spare apart now, in order to fix the tach.

Pictures would be great. Diagrams in FSM are OK, but photos are always better for me. Can the plug be reached from under dash, cover and knee plate removed already. Looking for mouse chewing too. Thanks.

You have to pull the instrument cluster out. Not very hard to do.

I'm afraid you'll have to drop the steering wheel in order to get the cluster out (easier if you take the driver's seat out first).
1.Take out the cluster
2. Take it apart
3. Here is a pic of my spare cluster and the plug (for the LCD) that was loose causing the same problem that you described.
location of plug
The plug (female part)
LCD (male part) How they go together Just make sure they are plugged together really good. It's kind of hard to get them together. I used a screwdriver to hold the brown part (female) in place while pushing down on the LCD part (male)
Bubba91,
Thanks, great pictures. I can see exactly how it should go together. Sorry for stepping all over BobbyVW's post, but this may help him too. I'll try to get at the connector this week end and let you know how it comes out. Checking coil as recommended too. I'll let you know.
Bubbba91,
You were absolutely right!!! We dropped the steering column, tore out the dash, and the cowling behind to get to the CCU. Related to other problems. I was working on the passenger side fastenings most of the day, but just before we were going to quit for the day, I was on the drivers side working on something when I saw the connector in the pictures above. Top of the instrument cluster assembly, just where you said it would be.
I took a screw driver and put pressure on one side then the other trying to get a good seat.. When the key was turned on,,, normal dash. Hurray!!!!! I haven't seen that in months. Thanks for the pictures, man I would never recognized the connector without them. Still have to tear the assembly apart and clean and grease it, but that is no biggie.
One problem down, many more to go.
Thanks again,
Ed
I have a CNC that has a few of that style of molex connector in my shop. Had some trouble with it a while back and manufacturer said there was an up dated pin design. I will take a look for them Monday. I had similar situation with intermittent connection and operation.
